Fayola mu-luma Waithe

Fayola Waithe is a master’s student at Georgia State University studying environmental anthropology. Fayola graduated in 2022 with a B.A. in anthropology from Agnes Scott College. After graduating college she worked as an Environmental Justice and Sustainability Fellow at Agnes Scott’s Center for Sustainability. As a fellow she created environmental justice focused programs and events for the Agnes Scott College, worked on an Environmental Justice resolution for the college, as well as worked with the Center for Sustainability and the City of Decatur on their joint Climate Resilience Plan (CRP). Fayola is a graduate of Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmental Justice Academy (2019) and completed Georgia Tech’s Sustainable Development Goals Fellowship (2023). Fayola’s main research focus is around African American philosophy of environment and the cultural continuity of West African religion and philosophy in African American environmental relationships, and the legacy of Slavery in US environmental culture. She is currently working on her master’s thesis exploring African American environmental philosophy and West African traditions with a local Black Woman started and organized climate activist organization.
